Principal's Welcome 2017

Welcome! Thank you for visiting our website. Holy Rosary is a happy and inclusive school community for boys and girls from Pre-kindy (3 year olds) to Year 6 where everyone is welcomed, nurtured and encouraged to grow in the footsteps of Christ.

Holy Rosary’s place in the community is well-regarded.  Opened in 1959 by the Dominican Sisters, Holy Rosary is located on a beautiful leafy green site on top of the hill.  Generations of children from near and far have been educated here, attracted by its really strong sense of community, high standard of education, and deep commitment to ensuring that what we do meets the needs of the children in our care.  The use of the classrooms, hard courts, oval and gym from the former high school campus next door some years ago has made a significant difference to what we offer as well as to the amount of space in which children have to play.

Holy Rosary respects the Dominican charism, and its principles of Truth, Love and Knowledge –principles as relevant today as they were then.  As a community, we embrace ‘Making Jesus Real’, which is both simple and powerful – it really is being conscious of how we treat each other, and a twenty first century attitude.  We enjoy a good relationship with the parish, Our Lady of the Rosary.

Holy Rosary is a forward-thinking community which embraces change that is well-researched, and known to make a difference.  Central to our priorities at this time is Student Engagement.  Beneath this umbrella, our emphasis on Making Jesus Real, the Twenty First Century Classroom Project, explicit and differentiated instruction - particularly in literacy (Brightpath) and numeracy (Principals as Numeracy Leaders), and as a 1:1 device school (with the current device of choice being ipads) our commitment to teaching the judicious use of technology.

Our parents and guardians are very connected to the school - Class Parent Representatives, after school sports coaching for netball, t-ball, basketball, hockey and football, School Board members, and an active and committed Parents and Friends Association for example.  Many parents also sign up to rosters in the tuckshop, and in classes.  Our tuckshop has seventy volunteers!  The beautiful playgrounds – Kindy, Preprimary, and Nature playgrounds in particular, have largely been funded and constructed by the P&F, thereby making a clear statement about the importance of play in the lives of children – our children.

Our teachers are well qualified professionals, dedicated to the holistic learning environment which caters for each child’s academic, physical, social and emotional development within an engaging educational program which includes specialist teachers in Science, Italian, Music and Physical Education.  After school private music lessons for guitar and keyboard are also available.

Our team’s professional commitment to embracing the school’s initiatives is outstanding.  This, together with knowing each of their children well, makes a clear statement about the importance of the well-being and achievement of our children.

In our school, families become part of a community which seeks positive and enjoyable experiences for their children as well as themselves. It is a place where lasting friendships develop.

We hope our website provides you with the information you need, about our great school.  If you have any questions or would like to take a look around, please get in touch.
